On re-publishing John Allegro's The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross
The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross was one of the most controversial books written in the twentieth century. Not since Darwin's On the Origin of Species had a book caused such outrage. John Marco Allegro was a respected Dead Sea Scrolls scholar and had just left his post as a lecturer at Manchester University. His infamous1970 book The Sacred Mushroom and the Cross revealed that Judeo-Christianity is based on an ancient fertility-mushroom cult.

The Allegro estate and Gnostic Media have teamed up to get this book back into print for the first time in a quarter century. We're happy to announce that John M. Allegro's The Sacred Mushroom and the Crossis in preparation for reprinting and is now available for pre-ordering. There will be both hardcover, and full-sized softcover versions for this 40th anniversary edition.
