the term is no less amusing to me now than when I first heard it uttered and almost
instantly thought of a magazine or calander featuring sultry images of the women I've
known or met that use psychedelics.:) lol
but really.....
.. in one of his talks from palenque that I heard on the psychedelic salon....
christian ratsch mentiones having, several times, tried "psychoactive honeys"
- meanings honey that becomes naturally psychoactive, presumably by
inclusion of nectars from potentially unknown psychoactive plants.
I was just wondering if anyone else had ever heard of such a thing or know of more information
since this was the first mention I had ever heard of this phenonena.
...or was interested in being in the calender..hahaha

wheres the honey
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 5:30 AMdon't know about the psycho honey,
Maybe we need to befriend the bees and tell them to fetch all the psychoactive pollen they know of
but I sure would like to see that calendar manifest some time now

Re: wheres the honey
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 6:03 AMI know about 'blue' honey. It is a method to store fun guys in honey. The honey turns blue after a while and can be consumed for a psychedelic experience. This method works well for storage.

Re: "psychoactive honeys"
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 1:13 PMI sure have... For Example Heather Honey from Scotland/Ireland.... Very nice Psychoactive Honey... Euphoric and slightly Psychedelic... There are also infamous Morning Glory Honeys from South America and Brews made with it... As well as lots of the Unknown Plant type... as you mentioned.... and Wild Honey from Multiple sources of known plant types... Really A pretty Common Occurrence, in certain areas anyway... -

Re: "psychoactive honeys"
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 1:39 PMexcellent manjushri!
I thought Ratsch may have alluded to morning-glory in the palenque region..
have you ever heard of it being available at all?
is it all wild or do people intenitonally keep bees by a field of morning glories or heather?
I brew mead and would love to make a sweet, low-alcohol, psychoactive mead!
and do you know what is in heather that makes the psychoactive heather honey?
do you have a source for this?
was it Ratsch?
..very excited! -

Re: "psychoactive honeys"
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 2:16 PMYes, and no.... I know The FOG... which is a wild Yeast that grows on the Heather, is where the Psychedelic Part comes in... I do not know of any spectrographs of the chemicals in the "Fog"...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heather
"Heather is an ingredient in gruit, a mixture of flavourings used in the brewing of beer during the Middle Ages before the use of hops. The use of heather in the brewing of the modern heather beer is carefully regulated. By law the heather must be cleaned carefully before brewing, as the undersides of the leaves may contain a dusting of an ergot-like fungus, which is a hallucinogenic intoxicant.[citation needed]"
I grow my Own Heather... I do not wash the tops...
As far as the Heather Itself... I Believe it is a Terpene, but that is just a guess... Yes they do Have Bees near Heather in Scotland to produce Heather Honey... It is hard to get.... True Heather Mead use both Fresh Tops and Heather Honey....
www.heather-hills.com/ But they don't sell to USA...
Yes, Xtabentún is a liqueur made from Morning Glory Honey. It is easy to get in the Yucatán.
Plants of the Gods, Revised and Expanded Edition, Page 173 makes a Reference to Xtabentún...

Re: "psychoactive honeys"
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 3:31 PMmany thanks manjushri!
so if you grow the heather does the "fog" just happen, or
would one need to "encourage" it somehow?

Re: "psychoactive honeys"
Sun, June 22, 2008 - 5:09 PMI does seem to be a natural component... Similar to mycelium that live in bean and pea pods... that then grow with the sprouts as soon as you plant them... I don't think that it needs any more encouragement that good growth conditions. =)
Calluna vulgaris is the best one to grow... So many sub species.

-indeed ! ; )
does anyone have any personal experience with psychedelic effects from Xtabentún ???
I do not drink alcohol much and do not like liquor, so I would probably be interested in cooking-off
or evaporating the alcohol content first.
